Strengthening and expanding our investments and partnerships

HCA Healthcare invests in healthier tomorrows for the communities we serve through strategic community partnerships. As we strengthen relationships with our neighbors in our hometowns, we are addressing key issues tied to education, workforce development, civic/economic advancement, veterans, health equity and well-being.

Our commitments and actions

To help support innovative initiatives focused on addressing high priority community needs and health equity, we established a $60 million community impact fund. Called the Healthier Tomorrow Fund, the positive impact fund will initially provide grants to nonprofit organizations in 25 communities where HCA Healthcare has a presence, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, Palm Beach, Tampa, Tallahassee, Orlando, Kansas City, Denver, Austin, San Antonio and Asheville, with plans to expand to additional markets.

In 2021, we are investing an additional $300,000 in our divisions through grants for community partners supporting social justice and health equity.

At HCA Healthcare, we collaborate with community and national organizations to address societal concerns and are proud to partner with organizations that support equity in the communities we serve.

National Urban League

We are committed to expanding our relationships with our communities by investing $10 million over the next three years in Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) across our footprint. The HCA Healthcare Scholars Program at Fisk University provides scholarships, career planning and internship opportunities for high-achieving undergraduates. This partnership and others with industry- and school-based associations help us to develop a diverse pipeline of healthcare professionals and leaders.

At HCA Healthcare, we are committed to advancing the diversity of our hospital boards of trustees across multiple dimensions to ensure our boards reflect the diverse communities we serve and include a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. We support increased board representation of people of color and women, as well as a balanced composition of community leadership roles and professional areas of expertise.

Market/Hospital Governance Task Force — This cross-functional workgroup serves to elevate governance practices across the enterprise by ensuring consistency in board operations and by advancing diverse representation on our boards. In 2021, the task force introduced robust guidance and recommended targets to support hospital CEOs in ensuring our market/hospital boards of trustees reflect the communities we serve.

Environmental stewardship

As stewards of the environment, we take a proactive approach to make communities healthier and protect the environment by implementing greening hospital practices, promoting conservation, decreasing waste and exercising environmentally conscious purchasing.
