TriStar Health announced Monday that it will build a hospital in Spring Hill, on the site of its current emergency room in the area.
The hospital will cost $250 million and offer 68 inpatient beds, plus an intensive care unit, labor and delivery unit, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization services and imaging services, according to a press release.
The announcement comes after the local brand of Nashville-based for-profit hospital giant HCA faced pushback from Vanderbilt Hospital, Williamson Health and Maury Regional Health. This year, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation to loosen Certificate of Need requirements for new hospitals, a change that HCA supported, while the Tennessee Hospital Association, including Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Ascension Saint Thomas, opposed it. HCA also received permission to build a $21 million freestanding emergency in East Nashville, but has yet to begin work on the site.
“We are grateful for the incredible support we received from community leaders and residents in the Spring Hill community,” said Mitch Edgeworth, president of HCA Healthcare TriStar Division. “This decision brings us one step closer to fulfilling a promise we made to the Spring Hill community eighteen years ago. We are thrilled to expand our services with the addition of a full-service hospital.
