One of HCA’s TriStar hospitals has a new CEO.

Nick Howald has been promoted to CEO of TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center, according to a press release. He will oversee the 136-bed hospital in addition to TriStar Century Farms ER, an eleven-bed freestanding emergency room in Anitoch.

The position was previously held by Drew Tyrer, who has been CEO since September of 2022. Tyrer is now CEO of HCA Florida Westside Hospital in Plantation, Florida.

Howald previously served as TriStar Skyline Medical Center's chief operating officer and has spent more than a decade at TriStar Health, according to Mitch Edgeworth, president of HCA Healthcare’s TriStar Division.

“He brings a strong track record of growth-oriented leadership with an unwavering commitment to excellent patient experience,” Edgeworth said in the release. “His intentionality toward developing a positive culture will further enhance the strong colleague engagement that TriStar Southern Hills has built over the years. He will further build upon the hospital’s 40-year legacy of being a strong community partner for the south Nashville region.”

HCA (NYSE: HCA) is Nashville’s largest publicly traded company by revenue, according to Business Journal research, with 27,694 employees locally in 2023. The hospital system operates 186 hospitals and 2,400 ambulatory sites of care across 20 states and the United Kingdom.

In his decade with the company, Howald has held various leadership roles at TriStar Centennial, TriStar Hendersonville and TriStar Skyline.

“I am thrilled to join the TriStar Southern Hills team,” Howald said in the release. “The dedication to patient care and physician and colleague engagement is unmatched at TriStar Southern Hills.”
