STOP THE BLEED® is a national awareness and education campaign focused on preventing victims from bleeding to death, which is the number one preventable cause of death after an injury. The campaign is an initiative of the American College of Surgeons, the Committee on Trauma, and the Hartford Consensus.

Giving communities we serve a healthier tomorrow

Stop The Bleed

May is National STOP THE BLEED® Month and HCA Healthcare facilities across the nation are hosting free STOP THE BLEED® courses for anyone in our communities to receive life-saving training on how to stabilize bleeding victims. Training participants will learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out:

  1. How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound
  2. How to pack a wound to control bleeding
  3. How to correctly apply a tourniquet.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within only five minutes. Individuals closest to someone with life threatening injuries are best positioned to provide critical, life-saving care before first responders can arrive.

HCA Healthcare encourages everyone in our community to be trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency. Through awareness and education, we remain committed to making the communities we serve stronger.
