Great healthcare starts with compassion.

Our mission – Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life – and the following value statements guide our work:

  • We recognize and affirm the unique and intrinsic worth of each individual.
  • We treat all we serve with compassion and kindness.
  • We trust our colleagues as valuable members of our healthcare team and pledge to treat one another with loyalty, respect and dignity.
  • We act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our lives.

Providing the best possible care for our patients

Delivering personalized patient care

Across HCA Healthcare’s facilities, we provide patient-focused solutions and resources in an effort to enhance access and lead to better outcomes. In 2024, HCA Healthcare patients accessed interpretation services in over 237 languages and dialects.

“We recently had a very ill pediatric patient whose parents spoke an unwritten dialect of Burmese called Rohingya. I mentioned it at the tail end of a conference call that I was on with our AMN [language services vendor] team last week. Within minutes, I had a live audio interpreter to help that family.”

After the success of our inaugural Accessibility Awareness Lab in 2023, HCA Healthcare hosted three additional labs in 2024 that guided participants through 12 immersive stations, each simulating what it’s like to use different assistive technologies or to have a specific type of disability. In addition, all HCA Healthcare colleagues received education in 2024 on how to best support patients and colleagues who are neurodiverse through our annual Code of Conduct training.

Ensuring Health Access and Respectful Care

Effective healthcare is based on trust built between caregiver and patient and requires a skilled balance of clinical treatment and human compassion. Our Health Access and Respectful Care program advances health access as a system priority and addresses health-related social needs for all. In conjunction with our network of Access Compliance Coordinators throughout our facilities, we regularly review and update internal policies to ensure they align with the organization’s core values and government regulations. We help implement these policies by providing resources and training to ensure all HCA Healthcare entities service our patients and communities with respectful, compassionate care. We’re also working to ensure health access for patients who have limited English proficiency, are deaf or hard of hearing, are blind or have low vision or have service animals.

Spiritual Care

Spiritual support is always a matter of patient choice. We provide pastoral and spiritual care resources for all patients who desire it. HCA Healthcare maintains a large network of professionally certified and accredited spiritual care providers who provide guidance for the whole organization — inclusive of our patients, their companions, our colleagues and the communities we serve. In 2024, HCA Healthcare established a spiritual care council and developed standardized guidance, strengthening the foundation for our spiritual care teams.

Unlocking opportunities for talent

HCA Healthcare is dedicated to nurturing talent and supporting the professional growth of our colleagues through continuous learning and mentorship opportunities.

We are also committed to developing our leaders through targeted programs designed to provide leaders with essential skills to lead teams, overcome business challenges and deliver value to our patients and communities.

Fostering a culture of trust, compassion and respect

HCA Healthcare is committed to fostering a culture of belonging across all areas of our organization that promotes trust, compassion and respect for our patients and for each other.

Colleague Networks are open to all colleagues and provide opportunities to convene around shared interests or experiences and create space to discuss issues of importance. HCA Healthcare has nine colleague networks including a group for colleagues with disabilities and their caregivers, military-connected colleagues and a group that support mental health and wellness.

Military affairs — HCA Healthcare’s military affairs program facilitates the recruitment, development and support of veterans and military-connected individuals across the enterprise.

These efforts have earned HCA Healthcare Gold-Level recognition as a Veteran Ready Employer by the Tennessee Department of Veteran Services (TDVS), making HCA Healthcare one of only two employers in the state to receive this honor.

Improving the health of our communities

HCA Healthcare invests in healthier tomorrows for the communities we serve through strategic community partnerships. As we strengthen relationships with our neighbors in our hometowns, we are addressing key issues tied to education, workforce development, civic and economic advancement, veterans, health access and well-being.

Investing in strategic partnerships

In the past few years, we have announced partnerships and collaborations with several national organizations to improve the health of our communities including March of Dimes and the American Heart Association.

In addition, to help support innovative initiatives focused on addressing high-priority community needs and health access, the HCA Healthcare Foundation established a community impact fund in 2020.

Our strategic partnership investments include those that strengthen workforce development by expanding talent pipelines and preparing future healthcare professionals to serve our communities.

We expand educational pathways by creating opportunities for high school and college students to gain exposure to careers in healthcare, pursue training and secure education. HCA Healthcare has 11 total partnerships with higher educational institutions across our footprint to provide opportunities for future healthcare leaders.

Beyond our financial investment, HCA Healthcare engages with schools to provide meaningful programming, career planning support, mentorship and internship opportunities. Learn more about our community partnerships.

Sustainability

HCA Healthcare’s dedication to improving more lives in more ways is directly connected to our sustainability efforts. We recognize the relationship between environmental health and human well-being, and we strive to address critical health issues while considering the broader environmental impact of our operations.
