A National Leader in Graduate Medical Education
With looming physician shortages in many specialties, HCA is taking a leadership role in the training of doctors for our company and for the world. We are the largest Graduate Medical Education sponsor in the United States, with 244 residency programs across more than 40 specialties that are training 3,300 residents. These numbers are expected to grow to 400 programs and 7,000 residents by the year 2022. We have more than 170 hospitals as training sites, including the nation’s largest burn center and the nation’s largest kidney live-donor transplant hospital.
Substantial Geographic Choice and Clinical Experience
Our residency programs are in 20 states and 38 markets, as well as the United Kingdom, giving our residents a wide range of choices when it comes to post-residency employment. The extensive HCA network also provides access to a broad variety of clinical experience, allowing residents to treat patients in various clinical settings for enriched medical training.
HCA residents benefit from strong mentor relationships, in which same-specialty mentors are assigned to encourage development of the whole physician. HCA residents have access to the world’s largest online medical library and clinical database to grow their medical knowledge as they learn the art of patient care.
HCA also invests heavily in new technology, making it possible for residents to experience leading-edge diagnostic and treatment tools in their specialties.
Considerable Support and Encouragement of our Residents
HCA offers a competitive salary and benefit package, and we have a generous stipend program that rewards residents for agreeing to practice with us after graduation. In addition to delivering outstanding training in patient care, we help residents learn how to manage their practices, so that when they graduate, they are prepared for both aspects of their careers.
