Our stories

First-person examples of how leaders write their own stories at HCA Healthcare

"HCA has provided me the opportunity to have a strong mentor, learn from my colleagues, adapt and grow."

A.J. Nice, MHA (Iowa)
COO, Medical Center of McKinney (Texas)

"I've had the great pleasure of joining a company that truly values leadership development and goes to great lengths to ensure that I'm properly supported and challenged.

"When I started as an Executive Resident at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center, I knew that graduate school had prepared me for the next step, but I realize now that nothing is quite like the actual experience. My CEO, who became a great friend and mentor, reminded me that what made me successful was my ability to continue to learn without pretending to know more than I really did. I had the luxury of NOT having to know everything, and I used that to my advantage by asking to participate in uncomfortable discussions with suppliers, providers and employees to address one of my development needs."

"Applying the lessons I learned gave me a level of confidence in what I was doing and how I was doing it. HCA has provided me the opportunity to have a strong mentor, learn from my colleagues, adapt and grow."

"HCA embraces executive development as part of its culture"

Jyric Sims, FACHE, MHA (Arkansas), Executive Certificate in Healthcare Leadership (Harvard)
CEO, Medical City – Fort Worth Hospital

Sims was honored as the 2017 Young Healthcare Executive of the Year by the National Association of Health Services Executives.

"HCA embraces executive development as part of its culture and commitment to developing the next generation of leaders. It is an honor to be a graduate of one such program, and for any new associate or resident considering the executive path, if you are ready to give 110%, be prepared for the awesome journey of leading people within this great company."

"Access, exposure and countless opportunities for growth and advancement"

Esther Chung, MSHA, (Trinity)
COO St. David’s Hospital, Austin

"HCA truly values and invests in individuals at every stage of one’s career. Through the Residency, HCA afforded me the invaluable opportunity to immerse in a highly-functioning healthcare system and develop relationships with healthcare executives and leaders with proven track records of success. These individuals have become and continue to serve as my mentors. Access, exposure and countless opportunities for growth and advancement are just a few of the benefits that I’ve experienced throughout my residency and early career with HCA."
