Nursing Leadership Opportunities
We are fully committed to educating and empowering the next generation of exceptional caregivers. As a leader in workforce development, we offer many educational and professional advancement programs to help colleagues grow and thrive in their careers.
We understand that learning never stops, so we strive to provide opportunities and resources for our colleagues to continue to develop their skills and expand their interests. In 2019, we approved nearly 12,000 applicants for tuition reimbursement, paying approximately $33 million in reimbursements ($21 million for nursing programs) and paying approximately $16 million in student loan assistance to more than 22,000 approved applicants.
In 2019, HCA Healthcare contributed $33 million in tuition reimbursement.
Eligible employees can receive up to $5,250 for higher education expenses for courses each calendar year. We also offer test-fee reimbursement for certifications and available prep materials.
Since we understand that education loans can be a burden, we initiated a student loan assistance program allowing eligible employees to receive a monthly benefit of $150 (full-time) or $75 (part time) to help repay their personal qualifying education loans for degrees already completed.

We are also investing in the next generation of physicians. As the nation’s largest provider of graduate medical education, we offer 185 residency programs and 70 fellowships across 53 affiliate hospitals.
HCA Healthcare further bolsters clinical education programs by investing in them. For example, HCA Houston Healthcare donated $3.5 million to the University of Houston College of Nursing, funding a new simulation center to provide hands-on, real-world clinical training and research and to increase the number of faculty members at HCA Healthcare affiliated facilities.
Recently, HCA Healthcare became a majority owner of Galen College of Nursing, one of the largest educators of nurses in the nation. This partnership provides Galen students with more opportunities for nursing education and professional development.
Our commitment to education shines through in our new-nurse onboarding program - StaRN . The 12 to 13-week program provides new nurses with the clinical skills needed to perform at their best. Even after completing this program, new nurses are continuously supported in their growth and development through mentorship opportunities and monthly seminars.
