STOP THE BLEED®
Be trained. Be equipped. Be empowered.
At HCA Healthcare, fostering safer communities is an important part of caring for our patients and colleagues. This includes providing education and training on the basic skills needed to treat a life-threatening bleeding injury.
Severe bleeding from trauma is a leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., according to the American College of Surgeons. Severe bleeding can become life-threatening in minutes — and knowing what to do can save a life. STOP THE BLEED® is a national awareness and education campaign focused on preventing victims from bleeding to death.
During May’s STOP THE BLEED Month, HCA Healthcare facilities across the country are offering free classes for community members who want to learn how to stabilize bleeding victims until first responders arrive. This lifesaving training will equip you with the confidence, knowledge and hands-on skills to respond quickly in a bleeding emergency.
Training participants will learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out:
- Use your hands to apply direct pressure to a wound.
- Pack a wound to control bleeding.
- Apply a tourniquet.
HCA Healthcare encourages everyone in our community to be trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency. Through awareness and education, we remain committed to making the communities we serve stronger.
